Laser Skin Resurfacing

To treat a wide range of common, troublesome skin issues, Dr. Robinson may recommend a laser skin resurfacing treatment. This advanced laser technology targets specific skin ailments and helps reveal fresh, clear and smooth skin.

Benefits of Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing treatments can be administered to patients of almost any age and many different skin types. The most frequently treated areas are the face, neck, chest and hands. Most commonly, laser skin resurfacing treatments are used to remedy:

  • acne scars
  • wrinkles and fine lines
  • age spots and sun damage
  • some precancerous skin growths

Patients who undergo a laser skin resurfacing treatment should be nonsmokers, which will ensure a better result as your skin heals from the treatment. Some patients with darker skin tones may not be ideal candidates for laser skin resurfacing as the treatment may have some effect on pigmentation. In your consultation with Dr. Robinson, he will help you devise a treatment plan and help you determine if the procedure is right for you.

How Laser Skin Resurfacing Works

When you are ready to begin your treatment, the skin at the treatment site will be cleansed. Dr. Robinson will then set the laser handpiece to your specific aesthetic needs. As he passes the laser over the treatment site, it will emit targeted energy. This precise laser energy works to remove the dead, dull and damaged layers of skin. In many cases, this procedure will also tighten the skin at the treatment site.

Laser Skin Resurfacing Aftercare

As you head home following your treatment, you may need some assistance at first depending on the extent of your treatment. For the first couple of days, you may experience some swelling and redness, both of which will be temporary. As your skin heals over the next week or so, new skin will begin to emerge. Your skin may be more sensitive during this time and you will need to protect it from the sun and apply a daily SPF. Depending on your individual treatment, you may miss up to several days of work.
