Liposuction

If you’re a good candidate for liposuction, you might have localized areas of fat that don’t slim down from diet and exercise. Liposuction is not a weight loss solution, but rather a surgical method of targeted body fat removal. Plastic surgeons have coined the term “body contouring” to refer to the popular sculpting methods of liposuction, which may be used to eradicate fat from multiple areas:

Most patients are near a healthy and stable body weight, but need additional slimming down to achieve the body shape they desire.

How Liposuction is Performed

The classic method of liposuction is the tumescent technique. First, small incisions are made near the areas of excess fat. Then a special tumescent solution containing the anesthetic lidocaine is introduced to saturate the fat and prepare it for removal. Next, Dr. Robinson uses a small tube called a cannula to suction out the selected fat. Most liposuction procedures require about 45 minutes, while some may last as long as 2 hours.

After Your Liposuction Procedure

The length of recovery will depend on the extent of your liposuction procedure, i.e. how many areas were treated and how much fat was removed. Most patients are back to normal activities within 5 days. Total recovery time is an average of 1-2 weeks.

The Cost of Liposuction

Because liposuction is an elective cosmetic procedure, insurance will not cover the cost. The total cost varies, as each patient requires more or less extensive treatment. On average, the price of a liposuction procedure in the U.S. is just under $3000.
