Abdominoplasty – the tummy tuck – is a surgical procedure intended to give the patient a smoother, flatter abdomen.

Candidates for a Tummy Tuck

You may be a candidate for a tummy tuck if you have loose or sagging abdominal skin and abnormal relaxation of the abdominal muscles. These conditions occur frequently after a pregnancy or significant weight loss. Many people also desire a tummy tuck because they are unable to tighten loose abdominal wall skin with exercise or diet.

Tummy Tuck Procedures

The tummy tuck is usually performed under general anesthesia either within the hospital or in an outpatient setting. The standard procedure tightens all of the abdominal wall skin, while the extended abdominoplasty tightens the abdomen as well as the flanks or sides.
A mini tummy tuck tightens the skin of the lower abdominal wall only, and can often be performed under sedation and local anesthesia.

Each procedure will utilize slightly different incisions. Dr. Robinson works with each patient to ensure the tummy tuck scar is placed in an easily hidden location.

After Your Tummy Tuck Surgery

Light activity is comfortable in 10-20 days. Rigorous activities such as aerobics should not be done for about 6 weeks. Your scar will be raised initially, but it will eventually fade and flatten out.

Are There Risks?

All plastic surgery procedures have some degree of risk. The specific risks and the suitability of this procedure for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation.
