A great thing about getting BOTOX® Cosmetic is that there’s virtually no downtime. However, we usually suggest taking a few precautions to ensure the best results.
For example, you should avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area for at least 24 hours. This means that while it’s perfectly safe to wash your face after receiving BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, you should do so with a light hand. You can use the same skin care products that you normally use, including cleansers, exfoliants and serums.
If facials are part of your regular routine, you will need to avoid scheduling one on the day of your treatment. This is because the pressure applied to the face during a facial may cause BOTOX® Cosmetic to spread outside of the desired area.
Additional BOTOX® Aftercare Instructions
Getting BOTOX® Cosmetic will not have a significant impact on your usual activities. However, you should follow these aftercare guidelines to allow the treatment to work optimally in the muscle:
- Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours after treatment.
- Avoid hot tubs and saunas for 24 hours after treatment.
- Keep your head upright for 4 hours. Avoid lying on your face.
- Avoid wearing tight-fitting headwear that goes across the forehead.
- Limit alcohol consumption for 24 hours due to concerns over bruising.
You should also avoid medications and supplements with blood-thinning properties, which could increase bruising at the injection sites. However, do not stop taking any prescription medicine without consulting your doctor.
Know that all patients receive specific aftercare guidelines during their appointment. If you have any questions about whether something is safe to do after getting BOTOX® Cosmetic, don’t hesitate to ask.
