Asking yourself if you’re a good candidate for liposuction is the first step to a better body. There are many factors that determine whether or not you will benefit from liposuction.
You Have Realistic Expectations
It is important that you have realistic expectations when considering liposuction. Those who believe that liposuction is a fix-all solution and a replacement for diet and exercise may very well be disappointed with their long-term results. Dr. Robinson will help you understand just what–and what not–can be achieved with liposuction during your consultation.
You Have Localized Fat Deposits
Liposuction is best for men and women who struggle with extra bulges here and there. Liposuction effectively eliminates localized fat deposits throughout the body, including the mid-section, upper arms, and thighs. It is not, however, for those who are generally overweight or obese.
You are Close to Your Ideal Weight
Liposuction candidates should be within 30 percent of their ideal weight. While not a requirement, Dr. Robinson strongly suggests all of his liposuction patients first try to be within this weight range using traditional weight loss methods. Not only will your results be better and help facilitate getting the desired shape, it reduces many of the health risks associated with surgery and can even help lower recovery time.
You Have Good Skin Elasticity
Skin elasticity plays a huge role in the success of liposuction. It is important that the skin should be able to tighten and not hang loose after liposuction. For those with loose skin, liposuction alone may not be able to achieve the desired results. If you do have loose or lax skin, Dr. Robinson may suggest another body contouring procedure, such as a tummy tuck or arm lift, in combination with liposuction.
You are a Non-Smoker
Smoking greatly increases the risk for surgical complications. Board certified plastic surgeons recommend that smokers not undergo any plastic surgery procedure.
